This past was a milestone weekend.
A year ago Saturday, we got the keys to our first house. An hour later, my father had his stroke, and my husband saved his life. Everything changed after that.
It's still really hard to think about, and I find it impossible to look at my house and not think of these two events that are inextricably linked. It's like "I bought a house, I'm a grown up!" and BAM, then I really grew up. I'll never have an answer as to why things happened this way. And yep, you bet I was angry for a very long time. At God (still am, truth be told), at karma, at fate - whoever. But I am grateful my dad continues to recover, and am hopeful that one day we'll have conversations together as we used to.
Anyway.
A wonderful thing I discovered this year, is this lovely blogging world that has brought me so much happiness.
Lauren from
oh,lauren (an amazing place to find pretty photos, interesting dreamscapes, and enough ephemera to keep me drooling) and Diana from
poppy brew (warning: blog will encite massive LOLs, plus Liz Lemon quotes!!!) BOTH passed this award on to me!
In lieu of "random" facts, I thought I'd share these:
7 things I've learned for myself this year
- Never underestimate the restorative power of a good bubble bath.
- What doesn't kill you, will make you stronger, but it will probably hurt like it has anyway.
- There are some bad people in the world, who will absolutely step on, kick, and punch you while you are down.
- There are even more good people in the world, who will prop you up when the above inevitably happens.
- My parents are the toughest people I know.
- My husband is a genius at handling crises. Seriously.
- An armful of kittens is the world's greatest stress reliever. ( I'm pretty sure there'd be no more wars, if everyone had a bunch of kitties to hug. )
Passing this love to:
post if you like, just know - heart you all.
{ back tomorrow with more silliness, and much less petulance, i promise. }
ps - seriously. sorry for the downer post. i just re-read, and it's like "OH BOY" but i'm not gonna lie - i'm way too tired to re-do it again.

I realized I never did post my answers to my own tag game (d'oh!).
So if you haven't played along yet,
TAG YOU'RE IT!
What is your theme song?
I agree with everyone that says it changes all the time.
Today, it's this:
Where is it you are dying to visit?
Ireland! Seriously, blogger convention, shall we?
If you were a cupcake, what flavor would you be?
Lemon-vanilla with sprinkles - a little sour, a little sweet, a lotta flair.
If you had an arch nemisis, what would his/her name be?
Procrastinate-y McMath-tron.
Super power: able to distract and befuddle in one fell swoop.
If you could live as any ficitonal character, which would it be? Why?
I'd love to be Joan from MadMen, but just for a little while. Martinis, big hair, and The Clothes, oh the clothes! Not to mention the early '60s in NYC? What an intriguing time...
( does this make me totally vapid and superficial? ah well. this was a much harder question to answer than i'd thought, and well, i went purely for fun instead of thought provoking. : P whatevs. )
Leave me a link to your answers, and I'll post 'em. It's fun to share!
You can read Tsuki's of LittleGray Fox tag post
here.
{ what's on your plate for this weekend? }
Pssssst! - I updated the button! How could I have forgotten my dear vintage loves?
Grab the button and share the love!

So here's 7 more random things about little ol' me:

(kinda) miss the stinky fixer smell.

I have a pretty huge fear of feet. I hate them.
(So instead here's a photo of my new favorite boots.)
I'm pretty sure I'm a musical late bloomer. I was always more into movies during those times one is supposed to be all angsty and into music. But now, I can't seem to get enough tune-age.

My lucky number is 4.
"Faerie Glen, limited edition fine art print" by IrishPhotos
I've traveled a lot of Europe, but never made it Ireland. I must remedy this!
I was born and raised outside of Detroit. I miss it. I love it. It still has a hold over me.
This is one part of a great positive view of the city.
via
I like my martinis dirty.
(hee hee.)
I'm passing this award onto all of you, my dears.
You are the most stylish buncha bloggers ever!

Stacey of
Design Addict Mom wrote a wonderful
post (you should really read it if you haven't already) last week, giving us a little peek into her life. And lo and behold, at the end of the post, she bestowed the lovely award on me that inspired it. : )
So here we go:
1
. why do you blog?

Honestly? Honestly, I started a blog in conjunction with opening my new Etsy shop. But since that first week or so, I've rarely even mentioned my little business. Blogging has become not only a(nother) creative outlet for me, but has introduced me to an entire other world of creative folks. It's been a pleasure getting to know all of you, and sharing a bit about myself as well.
I just watched the movie "Julie & Julia," and in it the husband bemoans blogging - that it's basically egocentric, narcissistic and frivolous. I couldn't disagree more. I mean yes, I do tell stories about myself (and look at me here, blathering away) but to me blogging is really about community. And as members of this community, we share. We comment. We learn. So to all the haters who think blogging is silly: Boo on you! I loves it.
2.
what are your 3 best memories?
Boy, oh boy.
a) Our honeymoon trip to Disney World. I'm am unashamedly approx. 7 years old.
b) Our road trip across Route 66. Perhaps the greatest road trip we've ever taken.
c) My grandparents home. It's no longer in our family, but each and every room is crammed full of memories. It's impossible to seperate out just one, because some of the best moments of my childhood live there.
3.
name two of the best books you've read.
Good gravy. Another serious tough-y.
"
The Way the Crow Flies" by Anne Marie MacDonald. It's an epic (over 700 pages), beautifully written tragedy. I recommend it highly (here you go,
Heather ; D I didn't forget!)
I've adored "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexander Dumas ever since I was 'forced' to read it in high school. I finished it in one day.
4. what are the 5 best movies of your favorite movies ever made?
(the former film student in me just can't answer the previously formed question)
c) Standing in the Shadows of Motown
e) Super Troopers (Don't you judge me. I still laugh my patoot off everytime I see it.)
5. name 5 things you can't live without.
humans and creatures aside....
a) coffee
c) crafting, in all it's glorious forms
6. if you could change your name, what would it be?
I love my middle name (Moran). It's a family name and it's unusual. I'd probably go with that.
7. tell us a unique and interesting fact about yourself.
I've been to nearly every state in the U.S. I've driven across the country 7 times. I can't wait to do it again.
And now it's your turn. I'm bestowing this lovely award to all of you who share the love on this little ol' bloggity blog. Your comments bring a smile to my face and joy to my day. This would be absolutely no fun without you.
{ i can't wait to read more about all of you! }
